Digital Music Group announced a distribution and revenue sharing agreement with YouTube today.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, YouTube founder Chad Hurley annouced that YouTube would begin showing three-second pre-roll advertising on select videos and sharing the revenue with the video publishers.

DMGI will take advantage of this advertising system and make part of its video catalog available on YouTube.

Digital Music Group has acquired a large catalog of older video content lately. The video, which ranges from Hopalong Cassidy to Mr. Bill, isn’t something you can sell on a mass scale, but there’s certainly a niche audience who’s interested.

Today, DMGI announced a deal with Apple to sell their video through the iTunes store. Under the deal, Apple will pay DMGI wholesale prices for every video downloaded through iTunes.

DMGI’s stock rose almost 10% on the news.

Digital Music Group: not the worst IPO

The Business Journal is reporting that Sacramento’s Digital Music Group’s IPO provided the second-worst return on investment of any IPO in 2006. The results are based on a Motley Fool tally of gains and losses by the year’s IPOs.

Previously, Motley Fool placed DMGI at the bottom of their December 26 “Benchwarmers” list that chronicles the worst performing IPOs of the year. Digital Music Group’s stock didn’t climb out of that bottom spot, however. Another stock simply sunk 5% to overtake DMGI’s place on the bottom rung.
