Marrone Organic Innovations Inc. secures $3.75 million

Davis-based startup Marrone Organic Innovations Inc. announced Wednesday that it has secured $3.75 million in private financing from a collection of venture capital firms and individuals.

The funding windfall was roughly double the target that CEO Pam Marrone had stated in several media reports over the last year.

The company is Pam Marrone's third successful venture in the field of environmentally friendly farm chemicals. All three have been based in Davis.

The first, the pesticide company Entotech, was sold to giant Abbott Laboratories. The second, AgraQuest Inc., is now a major private producer of organically certified fungicides and had 2006 revenue of $20 million. Marrone left AgraQuest in March 2005 but remained on the board until recently.
